Do you know how serious the consequences can be if you don’t clean the litter box properly? Let us explain!
The litter box is a crucial matter for both the cat and the owner. The owner is sensitive to the smell, the mess the cat makes, and—let’s admit it—whether the box ruins or even enhances the look of the interior (yes, some designer boxes really do exist!). For the cat, the location, shape, spaciousness, type of litter, and—most importantly—cleanliness are all vital factors.
So what happens if something isn’t quite right? That’s when the problems of the cat and the owner become one. Due to discomfort or dissatisfaction, the cat might avoid the litter box altogether—and decide to do their business elsewhere, like on the couch or carpet.
First, it’s important to find the right tray and litter type that suits your pet. A key factor is that your cat should fit comfortably inside the box. Some cats don’t mind closed litter boxes, but others may avoid them. When it comes to litter, go for more natural types (avoid scented ones), and choose a texture that doesn’t feel sharp or uncomfortable. Once that’s set, place the litter box in a low-traffic, quiet area of your home. Good ventilation is a plus—for you!
And now we arrive at the task mentioned in the title: cleaning the litter box. If you have a cat, you already know how particular they are about cleanliness. Ideally, you should scoop the litter box after every use—or at the very least, definitely after any number twos. If that’s not possible, a full scoop-out should happen at least once a day to remove all waste, ensuring your cat continues to use the litter box happily.
