More experienced cat owners already have an idea of how much trouble simple, everyday objects can cause. But there are times when items made specifically for pets are not safe either. This time, a toy nearly caused a tragedy.

As the Győr Soft Paws Association (Győri Puha Praclik Egyesület) reported on their social media page, a cat adopted from them had to undergo life-saving surgery. The cat got into a truly good place, the animal activists emphasise that the owners, alongside their love, also showered the little pet with all kinds of good things, including many different toys, and they most certainly gave continuous feedback about their everyday life to the association as well, thanks to which we could also learn about the case.

As they write, the animal suddenly became unwell, did not eat and also vomited, so their owners immediately took them to the vet. During examinations it turned out that they had an intestinal obstruction, so they were operated on at once. After opening up, a piece of a cat toy was removed from the digestive system.

As shown in the pictures below, it is a toy made of several strings, with pompoms at the ends of the strings; one of these dangling bits caused the trouble.

In connection with what happened, the animal activists draw the attention of cat owners to always check the condition of the toys.

It’s not only toys that can cause trouble

As we have written before, besides cat toys, rubber figures made for children – especially snakes, worms, or creatures with legs reminiscent of them – can cause problems, since their movement resembles real prey, and once hunted down, the cat easily chews them apart.

In the same way, every string, ribbon, thread (especially if threaded through a needle!), hair tie, etc. can potentially be life-threatening to your pet, so be very careful never to leave such things within the animal’s reach!
