In the following we list such tasks, precautions, which serve your cat’s safety. Do you keep to all of them?

For the protection of our pets, we mostly must form our whole life, as well as our living space in such a way that it be favourable and safe for the animal as well. Let’s see, what you must pay special attention to if you keep a cat!

These are the things important for you to do for the cat’s safety

1.) Keep the cat litter clean

Let’s begin with one of the most basic, but all the more essential things: the hygiene of the litter. On the one hand it is in your own interest too that the box always be clean, since this way there will not be unpleasant smell in your home. On the other hand, cats are particularly sensitive if their territory is dirty; if the toilet is not scooped, it may happen that your favourite will do their business elsewhere, for example on the carpet or on the sofa. Furthermore, from a health point of view it is not safe if the excrement stands in the litter too long, since this way the bacteria will likely multiply. If you have a dog as well, their interest too may be raised by the aromatic scents, which is better to prevent.

2.) Always check the outbuildings, your car, the closed rooms

In summer and winter (because of great heat, respectively cold) it is especially important that you not only care for your own cats, but also of those who may stray to you, by peeking into the shed standing in the garden, under your car before departure, into the part above the wheels, to see if someone is hiding there. With this you can prevent that the stray animal dries out, starves to death or suffers accident. Likewise in the case of indoor cats it is also worth it if before departure you check the closed rooms, because it is quite frequent that cats sneak in, then the door closes on them. To remain like this for hours, hungry and thirsty, far from the litter, is a very unpleasant experience. The best is if you leave home having seen your favourite beforehand – this way you are sure that they have not hidden anywhere.

3.) Do not have poisonous plants

The best is if neither in the garden, nor in the flat you keep such plant which may be dangerous for the cat. Curiosity or boredom often urges animals to nibbling, and a harmful flower or shrub indeed may cause serious damage. In this article we list some popular but poisonous plants.

4.) Regularly groom your favourite

The combing of the coat helps remove the dead hairs, which on the one hand prevents matting of the coat (in long-haired breeds), ensures that the cat can cool themselves more effectively, furthermore prevents that during self-grooming they swallow too much hair, which usually leads to vomiting. Besides, possible parasite infestations also come to light sooner if you regularly check your favourite’s fur. Do not forget about the cleaning of the ears either!

5.) Take behavioural changes seriously

Cats hide their pain well, they mostly hide if something hurts them, thus even this is already a warning sign that something is wrong. Besides, any kind of behavioural change may also indicate health or mental problem, thus if your cat is not as cuddly as usual, or just became very cuddly, if they have no appetite, if they start eating too much, if they use the litter differently etc., all this may be symptom of something. In such case it is recommended to turn to a doctor for a general examination.

6.) The routine examination is not unnecessary

As we are already at the veterinary visits: healthy cats once a year, chronically ill or very old animals generally every half a year, or at the intervals requested by the doctor must be taken for check-up. Even if there is no complaint, since this way already in good time, even before the appearance of the symptoms, certain diseases may be diagnosed. Otherwise, if the cat is already not well, the treatment may be more lengthy, often not as effective, and you also expose the cat to more suffering.

7.) Do not leave the windows open

Now that the more pleasant autumn weather is slowly arriving, it is refreshing to ventilate the flat. Do this, however, only if there is cat net on the windows, otherwise your favourite may easily escape. Do not leave the windows tilted either, because many curious cats get stuck exactly in these little gaps, getting serious injuries. Luckily today you can already install protector on tilted windows as well, which prevents your cat from hanging out through them.

8.) Pay attention to their food portion

Just as too little or not properly composed food, so overfeeding is also dangerous, primarily because of overweight, which increases the risk of numerous diseases – among them diabetes, heart and vascular complaints, joint problems etc.

9.) Care for the cat’s parasite protection all year round

Parasites attack not only in warm, but in colder months too, even in winter, thus the all year round, properly dosed giving of parasite-preventing products is indispensable for the preservation of your favourite’s health.
