Summer is slowly coming to an end, and autumn means a complete upheaval in the lives of cats: the autumn mating season begins. Fortunately, as a pet owner, you have all the tools in your hands to prevent any unwanted events.
Cats usually go into heat twice a year, in spring and autumn. The second round is about to begin, and this is worrying not only because of the potential litters that nobody really wants. Cats driven by hormones are much less careful about their own safety than usual, which increases the likelihood of various accidents: being hit by a car, wandering into a yard with dogs, or catching a serious illness during fights with other cats. As an owner, it’s therefore very important that you do everything you can to protect your pet’s safety!

If your cat hasn’t yet been spayed or neutered, now is the time to book an appointment with the vet! It’s worth checking the social media pages or websites of local clinics, because in autumn many of them fortunately offer discounts, half-price campaigns, or even full support (usually through animal welfare organizations), which can significantly reduce or even eliminate the financial burden. We know and understand that for many, the cost is what holds them back from taking their cat to the vet, so these opportunities are truly worth taking advantage of.

The surgery not only prevents your cat from fathering or giving birth to countless kittens—who, as we know, mostly end up fending for themselves and living short, harsh lives on the streets, rarely finding a loving and caring owner—but it also makes your pet calmer.
By reducing the hormonal frenzy, your cat won’t be driven by the urge to mate and will be more likely to stay safely at home. Of course, this is only guaranteed if yours is an indoor cat. For outdoor or free-roaming cats, there is always the risk that they will wander off and get hurt.

Spaying and neutering also reduce the likelihood of various health problems, including certain cancers and inflammations, which is another reason why it’s best to have your beloved four-legged friend undergo the procedure as soon as possible.
