Walter Annett, a 93-year-old widower, and his beloved cat Angus are getting well-deserved attention thanks to the videos showing their everyday life. The pair do everything together – the cat even accompanies Walter on his walks – and their popularity keeps growing.

The videos are filmed by Walter’s granddaughter, Sarah Annett, who also runs the dedicated TikTok channel. The sweet, intimate moments melt the hearts of both Sarah and the followers.

As Sarah told newsweek.com, every morning her grandfather and Angus set out for their regular walk around the neighborhood of their small New Zealand town. Angus even has a special wheeled basket, which doubles as a walking aid for Walter.

Besides the physical benefits of these daily outings, Walter also enjoys the social aspect of meeting locals every day. And the cat’s company adds enormously to his positive outlook and vitality even at this age. So, even when the weather doesn’t allow them to leave the house, Walter never feels lonely thanks to Angus.

In the video below, Walter’s great-granddaughter also joins them for their usual walk:

“My grandpa loves company, fresh air, and the simple joy of having Angus by his side,” Sarah said, adding that because they go out at the same time every day, Angus meows promptly at 11 a.m. to let everyone know it’s time to go.

Angus Has Been With Walter for 10 Years

The gray-and-white tomcat has lived with Walter for about a decade. Previously, he belonged to a family with small children who loved him very much, but the noisy household and other pets bothered Angus. As a result, he started showing up more and more often at Walter and his late wife’s home, probably seeking peace and quiet. Since Angus’s owners knew where he was spending his time – and realized that the cat felt happier with Walter and his wife – they wisely decided to gift Angus to the couple for good. Later, when Walter decided to move to his current home, a retirement facility, after his wife passed away, there was never any question that his four-legged companion would come with him – and luckily, he was allowed to bring him.

A Special, Supportive Bond Can Form Between Seniors and Cats

As Walter’s granddaughter emphasized, their story highlights how close the bond between humans and pets can become, and how much this relationship can benefit older pet owners – physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Of course, this applies to all age groups, but as people get older – when physical health often declines and social circles shrink – the role of a pet becomes even more significant in their lives.

The Online Community Also Contributes to Walter’s Well-Being

Not only do Walter and Angus’s videos bring joy to their fans, but they also provide Walter with positive feedback whenever he reads a kind comment, as his granddaughter points out. Fortunately, the pair receive nothing but kind and supportive messages, making this a true example of how social media can be used for good. (And how wonderful it would be if this were the case for all online content.)
