Adorable Video of the Little Tigers at the Budapest Zoo

The Budapest Zoo shared a heartwarming video on its Facebook page featuring the little tiger cubs born in April.

The tiger cubs, who were introduced to the public on June 12, recently received their second combined vaccination. During the check-up, their previously implanted microchips were verified, and their health status was also examined to ensure they’re developing properly. In the video below, not only can we see how the adorable Lena and Sasha’s check-up went, but we also get to admire them playing and be amazed by the surprisingly deep growls a young cub can already produce. As the saying goes, “Small but mighty.”

Léna and Szása

The gender of the not-so-tiny cubs was determined two weeks ago when they received their microchips and the first round of combined vaccinations. As seen in the video, this wasn’t exactly an easy task, as the little ones did not surrender easily and voiced their displeasure with growls. That moment was likely the last time such procedures could be carried out by hand with relative ease. In the future, further vaccinations can only be administered by hand if the big cats are trained for it. Fortunately, the Budapest Zoo is well-prepared for this, and they’ve made it a goal to train the cubs in time for the next round. For animals that can’t be trained or if training doesn’t happen for some reason, medications and vaccines are administered using a blowpipe.

The siblings are doing very well – they are healthy and developing beautifully. They regularly go out into the enclosure, play a lot, and rest as tiger cubs of this age should.

A Real Miracle After 12 Years

The two Siberian tiger cubs, Léna and Szása, were born on April 12, marking a long-awaited event – the public had to wait twelve years for this moment. The zoo was overjoyed when their mother, Agnes, gave birth to them. It was an especially happy occasion since the last time something similar happened was in August 2013, when Grusha and Macan – now grown – were born.

Agnes was born on July 5, 2021, at the zoo in Hluboká nad Vltavou, Czech Republic, where she spent the first years of her life until February 1, 2024. That’s when she was transferred to the Budapest Zoo. She didn’t have to wait long to meet her mate, Dariusz, who joined her on April 19, having left his previous home at the Debrecen Zoo.
