The autumn palette is indeed colourful, if we consider the gifts of nature. Let’s see, which are those delicacies, of which the cat too may consume.
Although our purring favourites are obligate carnivores, that is, they can cover their needs from animal sources, there are vegetables and fruits, which they may taste safely. This does not mean, that a significant part of their food can be substituted with them, but their diet can be coloured, and during training too some of them can even be an exciting reward treat.

For many the biggest favourite of the autumn season, the pumpkin rich in fibre, vitamin A, beta-carotene, potassium and iron, which you may even share with your cat. The small sticks of baked pumpkin, or pumpkin purée too can be a healthy supplement of the animal’s diet. What is important, as in the case of every vegetable or food made by you for the cat, is not to salt, spice or sweeten them during preparation.
The sweet potato is likewise such a fibre-rich vegetable, which the cat too may get; significant in vitamin A, C and B, manganese, copper, potassium, and similar to pumpkin, an excellent source of beta-carotene. Cooked or baked it may be offered to the cats.

The third vegetable outstandingly rich in beta-carotene is carrot, which cooked, in small pieces most cats gladly consume. Because of this it can be found in many cat foods as well.
After the orange now let come a radiant purple-burgundy vegetable, beetroot, which cooked, in small pieces, or puréed may colour your favourite’s diet. Because of its high oxalic acid content it may occasionally contribute to the formation of bladder stones, thus for cats with sensitive urinary tracts, or chronic disease, its giving is not recommended. Besides, in the case of healthy cats too moderation is very important; since it may also increase acid production, so one must watch out for the appearance of digestive complaints. After consumption both the urine and the faeces may turn pink, this is a natural phenomenon both in humans and in animals.

The “plain” potato cooked, in small amount likewise may be offered to your cat, but only if they are not diabetic, since this vegetable significantly raises blood sugar level. Raw and with skin however it is forbidden to give to the animal!
The apple is rich in fibre and antioxidants, which you may give to your cat raw and steamed as well. Remove the skin and the seeds, seed house beforehand, even just because the seeds contain cyanide, which is poisonous. (Though for this the animal would have to consume a large amount of seeds.) The fruit skin may lead to digestive troubles.

In the case of pear the same rules apply: without skin and seeds, in smaller pieces it may be given to cats.
Although not vegetable or fruit, but a typical autumn delicacy is peanut butter too, which can be an exciting and tasty snack for cats as well. It is especially important, that you offer your favourite only with natural, sugar- and sweetener-free version. Mainly xylitol, or otherwise birch sugar, can be dangerous, which is particularly poisonous in the case of dogs and cats too.
Now let’s look at those crops, of which the cat must not eat even by accident, because it may have severe, even fatal poisoning as consequence.
All onion varieties are poisonous both to dogs and to cats, thus do not let your favourites get food which you flavoured also with onion.

The grape and its dried version, the raisin may induce serious kidney failure, thus your cat must not get of them either.
This too is somewhat a cuckoo’s egg, but because of the seasonality it is worth mentioning, that although pumpkin by itself is healthy, with that made, but strongly spiced, sweetened (especially with xylitol!), containing other ingredients, additives desserts, drinks and foods are no longer suitable for animals, indeed may be downright poisonous.
Autumn brings change not only in eating, but significantly upsets the cats’ life order too because of the change of season. In this article we detailed, with what precautions you can do everything for your favourite’s safety.
