The recording below speaks for itself, but we will nevertheless detail what kind of household accident threatens indoor cats, and how you can prevent it.

Advent has begun, we have lit the first candle on the wreath, just as we are increasingly in need of the light of tea lights during the ever-shortening days. At the same time, in the interest of our pets, it is very important that we observe every precaution, otherwise the cat may easily suffer burn injuries. According to the commentary, the owners of the kitty seen in the recording below do not know exactly what happened, but it is not difficult to guess that the curious favourite singed some of their whiskers on something.

The accident may have happened with a candle, the flame of the cooker, or even the fireplace, all of which are potential sources of danger if there is a cat, dog, or small child in the household. For the safety of everyone and everything, a basic rule is never to leave an open flame unattended, not even for minutes: if you leave the room, blow out the candle, turn off the flame, or while cooking, close the door.

Our pets often cause house fires, mainly with plugged-in electrical devices (the iron, the hair straightener, but even a charger can cause trouble if the pet chews it), with the cooker (which they can even turn on, therefore the use of a safety lock is important), as well as with candles.

The cat’s whiskers are sensitive and vulnerable

Another important observation – which one of the commenters also very wisely noted – is that although the kitty got away without bodily harm, the injury to their whiskers, that is, the vibrissae, still represents serious damage for the animal, considering that for cats their whiskers are an extremely sensitive sensory organ. With their help, they gather a great deal of information from their environment, among other things the distance of certain objects, or the width of an entrance or gap. Thus, their injury also hinders them in everyday life.

But in a worse case, they could have suffered more serious burn injuries as well, so from this perspective, the poor little one really did not get off that badly.
