4 Things Cats Go Crazy For – But We Don’t Talk About Enough

Every cat parent knows that cats love to play, enjoy chin scratches, and would happily devour all the tuna in the world. None of that is news. But there are some everyday household items that most cats are obsessed with — and we rarely talk about them. These are worth taking advantage of in daily lif

Here Are 4 Things Cats Love

Before we dive in, it’s important to point out that we’re speaking generally about the things on this list. Some cats won’t care about one or more of these — and that’s perfectly fine.

1.) Plastic Bags

Why are cats so into them? The answer lies in a chemical compound called stearic acid, which is used to reduce the friction of polyethylene or polypropylene surfaces — essentially, it keeps plastic bags from sticking together. Don’t worry: stearic acid is naturally derived and non-toxic for cats. And that’s the secret — in addition to the crinkly sound and the way bags flutter in the air, their coating is often animal-derived (stearic acid is frequently made from animal fats or tallow), which stimulates your cat’s senses.

That said, never let your cat play with a plastic bag unsupervised, as it could be dangerous. But there’s nothing wrong with letting them enjoy it when you’re nearby.

2.) Dirty Laundry

This one is as simple as it gets: cats love lounging in our worn clothes and laundry baskets — and sometimes even peeing there — because they strongly smell of us. The stronger your scent, the more your cat wants to mix in their own scent. This “shared scent” is very important for them: it’s a way to gather information, bond, and feel safe. This is a sweet, though sometimes less welcome, way of expressing community. If you’d rather not have your cat in your laundry, get a basket or box with a lid.

3.) Grass

Like all animals, cats are instinctively drawn to things in nature that make them feel better — grass is one of them. For cats with more sensitive digestion, eating grass can bring real relief. But be careful: outdoor grass isn’t always safe. It’s better to grow your own cat grass, so they can snack on it without risk. (If they vomit afterward, that’s completely normal — in fact, that’s part of why they eat it, to help with digestion.) Growing cat grass takes minimal effort but has great benefits: beyond the health effects, it enriches their daily life and provides extra stimulation.

4.) Knocking Things Over

Why do they do it? Because they’re extremely curious creatures. They want to know what an object is and what happens if they touch it. However, if your cat is knocking things over more than usual, it may be a sign that they’re bored. The solution is simple: play with them!
