The end of the year is approaching, which most people bid farewell to with a smaller or larger celebration, welcoming the new year. So that New Year’s Eve can be joyful not only for you, but for your pet as well, take our advice!
It may be that as an owner, New Year’s Eve celebrations are associated for you with fireworks that cause enormous stress for animals. Or at least this is one of the first thoughts that comes to mind in connection with the year’s end.

However, you can do a lot not only for your pet’s peace of mind, but also for your own enjoyment on the last day of the year. You do not necessarily have to give up celebrating either!
But let us make it clear: wild house parties are not an option with a cat!
For your cat, these mean too many people and too much noise, and at the same time a source of stress. So, the year-ending blowout should not be at your place! If you absolutely want to go to a larger-scale party, then entrust the supervision of your cat to relatives or friends, preferably those whom your pet knows well. Cat boarding facilities can also be an alternative, but we note in advance that the unfamiliar environment can also stress the animal on this already tense night. Likewise, being left alone can also be distressing in the noisy, frightening environment. And unfortunately, despite being against the rules, firecrackers are set off almost everywhere without exception, fireworks lights flash, often for days.
If you are celebrating at your place, follow the advice below.
1.) There should be a calm place where the cat can withdraw. It is important that you pay attention to their signals, and if you see that it is too much for them, allow them to retreat. It is best if there is a quiet, secluded room where no one disturbs them. No one should follow them there, and there should be no passing through the room either.
2.) Do not overdo the socialising. Clarify the rules concerning the cat with your guests. Do not allow the enthusiastic group to overdo the affection. What is more, if your cat is of a more distrustful type, they will probably not even get as far as petting. Approaching must by no means be forced, so if the cat does not wish to get to know the company more closely, then this New Year’s Eve will certainly pass without them.

3.) Be careful with coming and going. Both during arrival and departure, and during any cigarette breaks, everyone should pay increased attention so that the cat does not slip out through the door or the window. As a result of the unusual events, even cats that are otherwise uninterested may get the idea of escaping.
4.) Do not feed them! This is very important, and is closely connected to the previous point: snacking must be forbidden. At a party there are many foods and drinks that are harmful to the animal. To make sure they do not eat such things, draw the attention of those present to the dangers of offering food. Keep an eye on your pet as well, so that they do not help themselves!
5.) Withdraw while the explosions are going on. Regardless of whether you are with them, fireworks can upset the cat (yes, not only dogs, but cats are also irritated by loud, sudden noises and flashing lights), so at that time do everything you can to calm them.
