The musical underscoring only heightens the fright induced by the cat. In our article we also reveal why our purring favourites are capable of this.
Every element of the recording below is chilling: the dark nook where the cat crouches, the greenly glowing eyes, the quick darting back and forth, and with the dramatic music the maker of the video only heightens the effect.
Right, it did turn out quite frightening didn’t it? Yet in reality what you see is completely harmless!

Perhaps the pair of green eyes flashing out of the darkness grabs the attention the most, which bestows on the animal a mystical, almost otherworldly appearance. Yet it is a very general and also very useful phenomenon: cats, just as many other mammals mainly pursuing a nocturnal lifestyle, have on their eye an extra light-reflecting layer, the so-called tapetum lucidum (which in Latin means “shining layer”). Thanks to this they are able to see well in twilight and in darkness too, which is indispensable for hunting.
Long ago, while this was not clarified, for a long time they believed that the cats’ eye indeed glows; for example, the Egyptians thought they let out during the night the rays of sun absorbed during the day.
We, however, would not like to reinforce that the cat visible in the video is frightening because they are black: quite enough baseless superstition is connected to them as it is! One thing is certain: this way the recording is more spectacular, as the dark fur disappears in the likewise dark corner, allowing the eyes to dominate.

The strange movement also deserves a few words, as it excellently shows how professionally our favourites use their claws. Thanks to these they can hold on even on truly difficult terrain, on steep surfaces. So that at home it is not your furniture that suffers damage, it is recommended to obtain at least one cat tree, on which your kitty may climb, play, and curl up to their liking.
In this article of ours we detail how cats' sense of smell compares to dogs' – interestingly, their nose might be better in some ways.
And here you may read about why, unlike dogs, their claws are retractable.
